Hardware setup

Because it's sometimes useful to know what sort of a machine a reviewer's used when comments are made about a game, here are the specs of the machine I mostly use to play games.

Updated March 2008

  Vista home premium
  19" wide screen monitor
AMD 4600 (2.4 GHz 64 bit dual core) CPU
  4 GB DDR2 RAM
  Asus 9600GT 512MB graphics card
  320GB Seagate SATA HDD
Plus all the usual odds and ends

Original setup (up until February 2008)

An old case, keyboard, mouse, wireless card & power supply were added to:

111.00   AMD 4600 (2.4 GHz 64 bit dual core) CPU
89.00   Asus M2N motherboard
69.00   1 GB stick of Samsung DDR2 800 RAM
101.00   320GB Seagate SATA HDD
167.00   Gigabyte 8600GT 256MB graphics card
228.80   19" Dell wide screen monitor
69.00   DVD R/W drive
165.00   Vista home premium OEM
1000.00

Prices are in Australian dollars.

This machine was built with a limited price tag in mind so the equipment's neither especially good or expensive.  The hardware is all relatively modern though, so this might also suggest an upgrade path if you need it (until it all becomes obsolete in a few weeks time!)
